Education That Inspires My Training

I’m often asked where I recommend people go to learn more about positive reinforcement training and how to develop horses in a way that truly supports both welfare and performance. This is a program I personally trust and feel genuinely aligned with.

It supports thoughtful training, emotional safety, and long-term success — whether you’re starting a young horse, developing a performance partner, or supporting a horse through training or behavioral challenges.

Shawna Karrasch Equine (SKE)

Shawna Karrasch Equine is a membership-based learning platform focused on the practical application of positive reinforcement training in horses. Members receive access to all SKE content, including 13 complete courses and hundreds of organized training videos covering a wide range of training situations.

The membership also includes monthly live Q&A sessions, an exclusive weekly podcast with Shawna and Jessie, and access to a supportive community forum where members can ask questions, share insights, and learn alongside peers and professionals. Contributor’s Corner features guest experts who share their knowledge and experience, and members can submit questions to be answered by Shawna and Jessie via video. Members also receive 10% off all SKE products.

SKE integrates behavioral science with practical training application, supporting both performance development and the rehabilitation of horses working through fear, anxiety, or communication challenges.

How SKE Has Influenced My Training

Completing my SKE Certified Professional certification marked an important turning point in my growth as a trainer. It pushed me to sharpen my timing, refine my criteria, and pay much closer attention to the emotional state behind behavior - not just the behavior itself.

SKE was actually my introduction to positive reinforcement training more than six years ago, but joining the membership is what helped everything truly click. It gave me a much deeper understanding of the science and what thoughtful application really looks like in day to day training.

I’ve been fortunate to spend meaningful time learning directly from Shawna and Jessie through the certification program, clinics, and one-on-one training. Those experiences have had a profound impact on how I approach both performance development and behavior rehabilitation.

What I value most is the focus on developing the kind of skill that helps horses feel confident, understood, and genuinely willing to participate.
